    Primary children visit SSB

    Harriers Banbury Academy visited with 30 of their Year 3 pupils on two separate days. Our Year 9 core project class ran a carousel of activities for the pupils. We had a team of scientists that demonstrated Bunsen burners and others who worked with the younger pupils talking about the Egyptian artefacts they had seen at the Pitt Rivers Museum. The primary school children had great fun building pyramids using our Stixx machine. Read more

    Year 9 students studying at Space Studio, went on a trip to Oxford on drop down day. They took part in a printing workshop at the Bodleian Library using historic printing equipment, toured the Weston Library which is home to some of the nation's most valuable literary treasures and had a behind-the-scenes guide to the study areas and the roof terrace. Students enjoyed a free lunch in Trinity College and a talk about life in the Oxford colleges culminating in a self-guided tour of the Pitt Rivers Museum to explore the Egyptian artifacts and the historical weapons.     Faraday Day at Space Studio

    Our school is passionate about giving our students new and exciting opportunities to engage in STEM subjects. A strong UK economy relies on great engineering output, and it is crucial to get the engineers of the future interested at an early age. We hosted a Faraday Day at Space Studio on 23rd January with teams from 4 schools. Year 8 pupils from Wykham Park competed as a team and hope to be in Space Studio’s team next year. The SSB team came second and won beautifully handcrafted pens made by, and presented by Professor Will Stewart from the University of Southampton. Read more

    Four of the Year 13 Biology students went to Birmingham to attend an A-level Biology day called Science Live. We heard talks by eminent scientists including human fertility specialist Professor Robert Winston, research geneticist Professor Steve Jones, and science writer Dr Ben Goldacre. We heard fascinating talks about memory formation, eugenics, antibiotic resistance, the evolution of humans and the misuse of statistics. Read more
