What is a Studio School?

The Studio School is a new concept in education, which seeks to address the growing gap between the skills and knowledge that young people require to succeed, and those that the current education system provides. Studio Schools pioneer a bold new approach to learning which includes teaching through enterprise projects and real work. This approach ensures students' learning is rooted in the real world and helps them to develop the skills they need to flourish in life.

Studio Schools are designed for 14-19 year olds of all abilities. They are small schools for 300 students; and with year-round opening and a 8.30 am - 5 pm working day, they feel more like a workplace than a school. Working closely with local employers, Studio Schools will offer a range of academic and vocational qualifications including GCSEs in English, Maths and Science, as well as work placements linked directly to employment opportunities in the local area. Students will gain a broad range of employability and life skills, and will have the option to go on to university, further training, and into employment.

Space Studio Ethos.

Space Studio Banbury is a unique and innovative school, for 14-18 year olds (year 9-13 from September 2018) curious about the wonders and possibilities of science and maths.  We combine technology, creativity, academic excellence and our broad range of professional contacts to work in partnership with industry, in order to provide the best possible high quality, aspirational, original and relevant education for up to 300 committed students.

We aim for all students to leave Space Studio Banbury technologically-confident, eminently employable, with exceptionally good academic understanding and achievement, able to work well with others and solve complex problems, whatever the context.  We challenge our students by using pioneering project-based learning, which includes stimulating encounters with the world of work, hands-on experience of project management, exposure to the global nature of technology markets, their growth and sustainability, as well as a strong focus on academic skills, personal development and community involvement.  Students benefit from a wide range of diverse opportunities across the breadth offered by the sector, and work regularly with national and international businesses.
